Turmeric, a known spice in cooking has also found applications in traditional medicine. It is also known for its characteristics to aid weight loss because of the bioactive compounds present in it such as curcuminoids, vitamins B and C, α-linolenic acid, omega-3 fatty acids, sodium, potassium, volatile oils, fibers, carbohydrates, and proteins.

Curcumin is an active compound in turmeric which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that lower blood sugar levels. The anti-inflammatory properties reduces chances of obesity and its antioxidant properties protect the body at the cellular level by suppressing inflammation in fat cells thus aiding weight loss.

Other Health benefits of Turmeric includes it antimicrobial and immunomodulatory properties which acts as an antibiotic and fights against bacteria and fungus in the body. The positive effects of this herb in the stomach and brain has also made it applicable in therapeutic and medicinal health.

You can take turmeric as a fluid by diluting the powdery form in water, get the powder-filled capsules or by adding it as a spice to foods which is most common anyway, but I bet you didn’t know turmeric had all this many benefits, did you? 400-600mg three times daily is the recommended amount.
