Monsieur Saturday Is a Shoe Instagram Account to Follow

Fashion

Food made to look like fashion, elementary-aged children dressed with an abnormal amount of sartorial sense, dog anything: Instagram is nothing if not a repository for clickable content. With a solid four years of carefully crafted images scrolling before our eyes (IG was purchased by Facebook in 2012, marking its unofficial birth into mainstream culture), we should all be forgiven for being just a tiny bit jaded. All of the above explains why we’re obsessed with @MonsieurSaturday‘s feed. Beyond the obvious (shoes!), Monsieur is run by Octavio Platón Akel, an aquaculture professional in Guayaquil, Ecuador who’s always counted illustrations (and shoes) as a personal passion.

“The account started about a year ago. I was always interested in illustration and fashion, and M. Saturday became the way to combine both,” Platón Akel explained via email. “Instagram was an opportunity to show my perspective on looks and the people I consider ‘fashion’ or cool.”

Images are created on Illustrator and are of someone. “I get all the references from the person I want to draw and ask about their look and what their go-to brands are, then I put all my focus on details,” he said. “For me, shoes are what define a look. That’s why I choose to showcase this particular aspect.”
